Learn How to Get Your Own Forum for Free

with one comment

Forum brings a website to life. It provides a platform for your visitors to share their knowledge and ideas on any topic. These days you can find many open-source readymade forum scripts. Installing such scripts into your website is the easiest job. You just need to know how to transfer a file into your server correctly. Besides, you also may need to edit some files to match its functions with your server. Some web hosting companies also offer one click forum installation program. With such program, you just need to choose your admin passport and installation directory, rest is done by a script pre-installed in your server. However, I’ll discuss about installations of manual forum scripts on this post.

Many websites offer free Forum scripts. They have their own manual and guidance for installation of a forum into your server. Generally installation is easy and if you go with README file of a forum, there isn’t anything to worry. Now I’ll list some websites where you can get free Forum.

First comes phpBB: www.phpbb.com
http://www.phpbb.com/ is a PHP/SQL based forum program. You can download their latest forum scripts from this page: http://www.phpbb.com/downloads/. Download the provided file > unzip > Edit some files (as stated in READ ME file) > Install, and > use.

Second is yaBB: www.yabbforum.com
http://www.yabbforum.com is also a PHP/SQL based forum program. yaBB actually means Yet Another Bulletin Board. This forum is available in several languages. You can download a zip file here: http://www.yabbforum.com/downloads.php. Unzip the provided file and follow the similar steps as stated for phpBB above.

Besides these forum programs, vbulletin is one of the major forum script providers but it isn’t free so I’ll not discuss about it here.

Before moving into manual installation of above mentioned forums, I suggest you to check your web hosting control panel and look for available “Site Software” there. May be, you have one click forum installation service available there. If not, use above mentioned techniques to get a Free forum for your website.
