Things to Avoid While Going Online

leave a comment »

Is going online safe? Yes it is, but only if you use some safety measures. In most cases, people loose their identity while going online. For registration, they submit their private information to distrustful and spam sites resulting in use of their personal information for spamming and other criminal deeds. So, in this post I’ll discuss on methods to remain safe while going online.

Spam Mails
Never register with a website just because you received an invitation email from it. An e-mail that says you have won a lottery is a spam e-mail. E-mail that says your friend has invited you to join… is also spam e-mail in most cases. It is better not to respond such e-mail.

Registration with personal information
Even though websites ask for genuine personal information during registration, make sure you’re giving your personal information for only those websites which are well reputed and have strong privacy policy. Don’t forget to read privacy policy of a website before submitting your personal information. Never register with a website that reveals your personal information including e-mail address to others without your permission. And most importantly, NEVER USE SAME E-MAIL AND PASSWORD THAT APPLIES FOR YOUR E-MAIL ACCOUNT.

Downloads
I know you’ll not obey me if I say don’t download illegal contents like music, movies, games, software and other files. You know you can find almost all movies, games, software, songs, and lot other from torrents, warez, and file sharing websites like RapidShare, RapidShare and others. How safe are you with such files? I think if you have downloaded such files before, you have an experience of being attacked by malicious spyware, adware, and malware. Never download a file from internet until the website from which you are downloading is as reputed as download.com. Besides, if you can’t stop yourself from downloading, don’t forget to install a best anti-virus program with online protection. ACTUALLY, INSTALLATION OF ANTI-VIRUS PROGRAM IS RECOMMENDED BEFORE BROWSING A WEBSITE.

Be true to yourself
Never spam. Don’t post illegal and copyrighted materials on the web. Never share a file that is owned by others. Don’t use internet for bad, let’s work together to make an internet a best place to surf.

Plasma TV VS LCD TV

leave a comment »

Purpose of both types of television is same – that is to watch. For the same purpose, technology they use is different. Along with technology used, there are differences in design, functions, and price. Now let’s move to comparison between these two types of television. I’ll try describing everything in layman’s language rather than in scientific language.

Panasonic Plasma TV

Panasonic Plasma TV

Screen Size
Larger screen options are available in Plasma TV. In general, size of plasma TV ranges from 37 inch (Diagonal) to 103 inch (Diagonal) whereas for LCD TV, it ranges from 26 inch (Diagonal) to 73 inch (Diagonal). Since most popular size ranges from 39 inch to 50 inch, both Plasma and LCD will be available for general TV buyer.

Contrast Ratio
Contrast ratio means difference between highest brightness and lowest darkness of a TV. More contrast ratio results in distinct picture display. Contrast ratio for Plasma TV is more than that of LCD TV.

Color Quality
Plasma TV has comparatively higher color quality because it is capable of displaying almost an accurate color. Plasma TV can display colors as it is whereas LCD TVs can’t display colors as accurately as Plasma TVs.

Samsung LCD TV

Samsung LCD TV

Heat Generation
Plasma TV generates more heat than LCD TV which is its drawback. Make sure you have AC facility to cool your room heated by Plasma TV.

Brightness
Plasma has less brightness in compare to LCD. LCD TVs have capability to light more brightly than a Plasma TV.

Life Span
When it comes to TV, its life span is most important. TV is a device that’s going to stay with you for longer period. Plasma TV has comparatively less life than LCD TV. According to recent data, if you watch your Plasma TV for 6 years at the rate of 10 hours every day, you’ll need to change your TV. So if you want your TV to last long, go for a LCD TV.

Weight
Though weight doesn’t matter much in quality, Plasma TVs are heavier than LCD TVs. So if you want to have light television set, buy LCD TV otherwise go for Plasma TV.

Technology for both these televisions is upgrading everyday resulting in higher and more stable performance. We can expect better quality tomorrow than today so you may wait few more time before upgrading your TV set because some recently launched (not widely available) televisions have most advanced functions and online features to watch online televisions and YouTube videos. Some televisions also are capable to update you with latest online information.

Learn How to Get Your Own Forum for Free

with one comment

Forum brings a website to life. It provides a platform for your visitors to share their knowledge and ideas on any topic. These days you can find many open-source readymade forum scripts. Installing such scripts into your website is the easiest job. You just need to know how to transfer a file into your server correctly. Besides, you also may need to edit some files to match its functions with your server. Some web hosting companies also offer one click forum installation program. With such program, you just need to choose your admin passport and installation directory, rest is done by a script pre-installed in your server. However, I’ll discuss about installations of manual forum scripts on this post.

Many websites offer free Forum scripts. They have their own manual and guidance for installation of a forum into your server. Generally installation is easy and if you go with README file of a forum, there isn’t anything to worry. Now I’ll list some websites where you can get free Forum.

First comes phpBB: www.phpbb.com
http://www.phpbb.com/ is a PHP/SQL based forum program. You can download their latest forum scripts from this page: http://www.phpbb.com/downloads/. Download the provided file > unzip > Edit some files (as stated in READ ME file) > Install, and > use.

Second is yaBB: www.yabbforum.com
http://www.yabbforum.com is also a PHP/SQL based forum program. yaBB actually means Yet Another Bulletin Board. This forum is available in several languages. You can download a zip file here: http://www.yabbforum.com/downloads.php. Unzip the provided file and follow the similar steps as stated for phpBB above.

Besides these forum programs, vbulletin is one of the major forum script providers but it isn’t free so I’ll not discuss about it here.

Before moving into manual installation of above mentioned forums, I suggest you to check your web hosting control panel and look for available “Site Software” there. May be, you have one click forum installation service available there. If not, use above mentioned techniques to get a Free forum for your website.

What Google Chrome Misses?

with one comment

Many of you may have already used Google Chrome and found the difference between it and other internet browsers. For those who are yet to test Google Chrome, here are some features you’ll miss with some screenshots while using Google Chrome.

No History List
If you are currently using Internet Explorer or Firefox, you can see a button to the right of forward button which opens the list of recently visited pages. This list isn’t available in Google Chrome which make difficult to browse recently visited pages. However, if you click on forward or back button for around two seconds, the your recent browing history will appear. This feature isn’t what Google Chrome misses but actually has modified it.
Google Chrome History

No Properties on Right Click
How often do you use Right Click > Properties on your browser? Talking about me, I use it too often that internet browsing without it cannot even be imagined. Google Chrome misses it. You cannot view the property of document, image, or any link. When you right click on a document, you cannot see a properties option there which makes you unable to inspect the property of any item.
No Properties on Right Click

No Feed Reader
Though I cannot create any screenshot for this drawback, I will try to explain it. Google Chrome misses feed button which allows you to subscribe to respective feed in Internet Explorer or Firefox. Google Chrome cannot read XML files. When XML file is opened in Google Chrome Browser, it displays a plain test whereas in Internet Explorer and Firefox, RSS feeds are parsed properly and displayed to make it readable.

Conclusion
I believe Google hurried to release Chrome. It should have waited few months more to develop some strong features to defeat it’s competitor like Internet Explorer. However, being an open source browser, you can add any feature into Chrome. In default, Google Chrome has nothing new to offer.

iPhone Software Defects

leave a comment »

iPhone is considered one of the best cell phone devices available in the market today. Despite of its popularity, I consider iPhone as one of the worst cell phone devices because of its numerous software drawbacks. I’ll try to point out all software drawbacks of iPhone device in this blog post.

No copy of text
You cannot copy any text in you iPhone device. The text you write in one application cannot be copied to another application. I consider this as one of the major defects of iPhone.

GPS doesn’t direct you
GPS in iPhone is good to locate your position but it cannot show direction to your destination from your current location.

No flash player
Though web browsing is excellent, you cannot see any flash files. Today’s webpage is made live with the use of various flash files that may be for animation, for ads or even for games. There are many websites like Nokia’s N-series website which are designed completely in Flash. Such websites and content designed in flash will not be displayed in iPhone browser.

No external applications available easily
For cell phones of other platform like Symbian, there are thousands of free applications and games available readymade. But for iPhone no much applications and games are available. iPhone software SDK was recently released and many developers have started to work for iPhone application creation.

These are the major defects of iPhone application. If you know other defects, please comment on this post.
